9D/8N Sipadan-Mabul & Sukau Safari

Day 1

Morning, arrive Tawau Airport and take 1 hour overland journey to Semporna. An hour boat ride to Mabul Island followed by orientation by divemaster and shore dives. Overnight at twin bedded chalet in Sipadan-Mabul Resort, Standalone Chalet. (LD)
Day 2 - 5

Three boat dives per day and unlimited jetty dives. There will also be opportunities to dive at Sipadan. Overnight at Sipadan-Mabul Resort, Standalone Chalet. (BLD)
Day 6

0630am, depart from resort then you will be met and transferred approximately 4 hours overland journey to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Upon arrival at Lepit Jetty transfer for 10 minutes boat ride to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Take a river cruise using electric motor in search of wildlife and birds. Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by slide show conducted by naturalist guide. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge. (BLD)

Sukau Rainforest Lodge
The 20-room, multi international award winner, is managed by Borneo Eco Tours. It was built in 1995 in traditional Malaysian architecture using several Borneo hardwood species. The lodge is built on stilts with a lounge, gift shop, education centre, Hornbill Boardwalk with two elephant passes, three open deck for wildlife viewing, an enclosed garden, a riverside Melapi restaurant, open sun-deck and river jetty. The rooms and lounge were renovated in year 2010. Electricity is supplied by acoustic generator, and hot water by solar heaters. All rooms are twin bedded, with ceiling fan, mosquito netting, attached bathroom, hot shower and toilets. River tours are conducted by boats powered by electric motors and four stoke outboard engines.

Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others.
Day 7

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. Take a 0600hrs morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour along our Hornbill Boardwalk located behind the lodge with our in-house naturalist. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. After dinner an optional night safari cruise (at a surcharge) spotting nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds. Day 8

Take an early Morning River Cruise along the Menanggol River by silent electric motor in search of wildlife. After lunch, proceed 27km overland journey to the vicinity of Gomantong Cave. The cave is surrounded by primary rainforest, which makes it an ideal place to spot orang utans in the wild. Witness the exodus of over two million bats as well as raptors. Return to Sukau Rainforest Lodge for overnight stay. (BLD)
Day 9

After breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat journey. After lunch we will proceed to watch a video show about the plight of the Orang Utans and the rehabilitation efforts ongoing at the Centre. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest in wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1500nrs, and then we continue to the newly completed enclosed nursery area for young orang utans. Transfer to airport for departure flight (Recommended ETD 1800). (BL)

Excludes: Domestic airfare, tax, entry permit to Sipadan Island, camera fee and items not mentioned.

  * (for Tour Portion) - Please bring along sun block lotion, personal toiletries, torch light, insect repellent, drinking water bottle, walking shoes, leech sock, binoculars, camera, hat & raincoat.
  * (for Diving Portion) - Please bring along diving equipment (available for rent), dive logbook, dive card, sun block lotion, personal toiletries and swim wear.
